The B-SMART monitors the ability of a patient to detect and respond to a timed series of vibratory and auditory stimuli. It evaluates the neurological status of an awake patient during conscious sedation or regional anesthesia.

The B-SMART consists of 2 components; the finger unit is placed on the contralateral side of the patient. When the finger unit vibrates, the patient stops the vibration by manually depressing it. At the same time, the B-SMART emits an audible alert. When the vibration is stopped the alert ends. The B-SMART can be set for 30, 60, and 120 second repetitive time signals.
